Moon Wise - Women’s Wellness App

Project Overview

Team: Maya Ellis

Product Name: Moon Well

Duration: 3 Months

Objective: Create a comprehensive app that goes beyond basic cycle tracking to provide actionable insights for fitness, nutrition, and wellness. The app aims to improve emotional and physical health by encouraging women to honor their body's natural rhythms and stay connected with their community.

My Role

  • Logo Design & Brand Identity: I created a calming and empowering visual identity that resonates with women and reflects the app’s focus on cyclical wellness.

  • Prototyping: I designed user flows and interactive prototypes to ensure an intuitive and seamless user experience.

  • UX/UI Design: I developed clean, user-friendly interfaces that prioritize clarity, ease of navigation, and emotional connection.

Problem

Many women struggle to connect with their natural menstrual cycles, often feeling out of sync with their bodies. Existing period-tracking apps primarily focus on dates, leaving out critical insights like fitness, nutrition, self-care, and community support — essential elements that help women optimize their well-being throughout their cycle.

Solution

MoonWell is a comprehensive wellness app designed to help women sync with their natural menstrual cycles. More than just a period and ovulation tracker, MoonWell offers personalized fitness and nutrition guidance, self-care tips, and wellness check-ins tailored to each phase of a woman’s cycle. A built-in community feature fosters support and connection, while reminders keep users accountable, even when they’re not feeling their best.

Research & Key Findings

To understand user pain points and needs, I conducted research on existing wellness and period-tracking apps. I identified key gaps: lack of emotional support, personalized guidance, and focus on fitness and nutrition. I also explored user personas of women aged 18-35 who wanted a tool to help them feel more connected to their bodies.

Ideation

The goal was to design an app that felt:

  • Empowering: Encouraging users to embrace their cycles.

  • Supportive: Providing tools to help them during all phases.

  • Calm & Inviting: A soothing user experience to reduce stress.

Design & Prototyping

  • Logo & Branding: The MoonWell logo incorporates soft curves, celestial symbols, and natural elements to reflect cyclical harmony and wellness.

  • UX/UI Design: Created clean, user-friendly screens with intuitive navigation. Features like reminders and community spaces were prioritized to ensure ease of use and emotional connection.

  • Prototypes: Interactive prototypes were tested with users to validate usability and refine features.

Challenges

  • Designing a multi-functional app without overwhelming the user.

    • Solution: A clean, minimal interface with categorized features and gentle reminders.

  • Creating a community feature that feels authentic.

    • Solution: Built-in forums and prompts that encourage open, positive conversations.

Learnings

This project helped me deepen my understanding of user-centered design for health and wellness apps. By addressing both functional and emotional needs, I created a solution that could positively impact women’s lives. Moving forward, I would further test and iterate the app features to ensure strong user-focused design.
